    Hi Everyone,

So for the last day or so I have been installing apps on elementary, and now I come to the final program which I need from windows, and that it FL studio 12.

    I followed this guide -
    https://www.reddit.com/r/FL_Studio/comments/4ucx0i/tutorial_how_to_install_fl_studio_on_linux/

But I can't get past where the exe runs and bengins extracting files, upon completion of fiel extraction I get and error message saying this:

    Unhandled exception: 0x0eedfade in 32-bit code (0x7b83ac1c).

    Hello David,

i could reproduce the issue. The tutorial you linked is missing one step (or describe it wrong): You have to choose "Use another Version of WIne" and then "1.9.19 (or .15)" instead "System":

    GrabWineVersion_PlayOnLinux.jpeg

In your error-output we see, there is written "Wine build: wine-1.8", so it choosed the wrong one. WINE 1.8 is the stable version, but not with the new features you need. You will need 1.9.15 or newer, according the tutorial. Result (i tried flstudio_12.3.exe, Demo Version from their website):

    FL12.3-Demo-Installer.jpeg

In genereal my tipp, when you need information if a program works with WINE (and how): Just google for

    winehq <programm name>

because WINEHQ is the website where every linux user can post his experience with the windows-application he is testing. FL Studio 12 seems to work pretty well, but not 100%: https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=32045

    What works
All native plugins, FL ASIO driver, file tree management, project save and load, file drag and drop, VST effects and generators*.

    What does not
Bridged VST's cause a UI hang when visible. They load and play just fine, but when you try to view them, the issue arises. Again, this only applies to bridged VST's; regular (native) VST's don't have this issue.

    What was not tested
ASIO4ALL, along with soundfonts, playlist audio clips, and all other producer version features.

    Additional Comments

Needs the corefonts package. the fl asio worked flawlessly without wineasio

PlayOnLinux is "only" a tool to generate hundreds of different WINE Environments. Good for beginner, but as more time you work with linux, as faster you are with the terminal & wine only, without playonlinux :)

Have fun with FL Studio 12 on Linux!

    Hey Paradise,

Thank you for the reply. I tried the things you stated but still to no avail. I have removed wine and play on Linux through the terminal and I will attempt it again. I did try many different wine versions through POL. does it make a difference if I am using i386 or amd64 versions?

here is a screen shot of my install trying the things you mentioned forum.png

I also tried installing a CPU Z as a test (its small to download and a .exe) this installed fine using POL. So I am assuming I have missed something maybe in the install of wine, or I am missing some files/settings which are causing FL studio to crash somewhere . ?

Thank you for your help and input mate, it goes appreciated!

    Hi David,

hm, maybe it still does take Wine 1.8 instead of 1.9.x? Could you copy & paste again the content of "Show Details" :)

    System information:
    Wine build: wine-1.4.1
    Platform: i386
    Host system: Linux
    Host version: 4.4.0-38-generic

I have just realised that that at the en of the error it says

    system information:
wine build: wine-1.4.1 - to make sure I didn't make a mistake I ran the install again, choosing "configure wine" and selecting 1.8, but it still said in the "show details" wine build 1.4.1 . . are we onto something ? :)

    Hi David,

thanks. Can you double check if you choosed wine 1.9.19 it like this:

    01-playonlinux.jpeg
    02-fl12.jpeg

    03-fl12.jpeg

here you have to choose 1.9.19, which should be installed before as described in the tutorial.

    works?

Yes I did this I tried it with 1.8 and 1.9.19 multiple times, and in the "show details" it says everytime "wine version 1.4.1

So maybe I should use wine alone ?

    Hey Paradise,

I managed to get the installer working. I purge removed all copies of wine and POL. Then re installed wine1.8 and used terminal to run the wine installer with FL studio and it worked. :D
