    Hi there!

I've recently installed Elementary OS Freya, and everything was great, i love it. But after some software installation (not sure which one messed everything up, i think it might have been screencloud since i have 2 monitors) i rebooted and i never was able to get to the login screen again. The only way to boot the system is to go to advanced options and select the 3.13 kernel instead of 3.19.

I've tried uninstalling all the recently installed programs, boot up with only one monitor, restart lightdm, etc. I have been looking for an answer everywhere but i didn't find another case like mine. The problem happens BEFORE the login screen, it just stays black with the mouse cursor and nothing else.

If anyone can help me, i will be eternally grateful.

    Thank you.

    Hi DumLoco

When you select the old Kernel 3.13 - you can press "e" in this window:

No you can see something like this:

when you compare the second to last line, where the words "ro quite splash" is, what is different there in comparison with kernel 3.19? (press "e" when choosing 3.19 again)

    Thanks for the reply!
I don't see any difference. Here's a picture of both grub screens.

    Thank you!

    This helped me: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2111223&page=4

It didn't fix it completely, now the monitors turn off and i have to hit ctrl + F2 and then ctrl + F7 to get back to X and everything works fine. It's not perfect, but at least i can run the latest kernel.
If anyone knows a way to not having to do the console switch, i would like to know!

    cheers
