Hello to you all. So glad to have found this great community. As says the title, I'm totally new to the Linux universe. My main computer is a 27 iMac running Mountain Lion. I've been a Mac guy for all my life. I bought a mint condition Acer laptop from a friend. Dual boot Windows 7/Ubuntu 14.04. Wanted to try out Freya for obvious reasons à la Mac. Thought it would be easier though. Anyway, I swore to learn and understand Freya and use it. Want to stay away as much as I can from Windows. But right now, I think I put myself into troubles. Welcoming screen let me no more login as the administrator. Can only login as a guest. Plus the Elementary logo is gone and just before the Elementary welcoming screen, I can see the old red Ubuntu 14.04 login screen for a millisecond. What can I do? What may I have done? How to log back as the admin?
Hi Racineur I'm new here too. This problem doesn't sounds good.. Often for linux beginner's it isn't easy to resolve such a strange problem. - What have you done in ElementaryOS Freya until it doesn't let you login anymore as your own user? Did you install or upgrade something? - Do you see your user login at the login page, or is it gone? (Screenshot Example) The Linux way to troubleshoot this would be through the console. - With CRTL + ALT + F2 you can switch to the non-graphic login. The graphic-login is CRTL + ALT + F7. Could you login there with your Username (case sensitive, usually lower case) + Password? Is there any error message while trying to login? My personal opinion is, it would be better for you to reinstall eOS freya completely. You're new to Linux and you may will lose the joy for linux when there is an unresolvable issue in the first days..
Ho and thanks for your reply. The image shown here is what I could see before. Strange thing happened this morning. I typed my password even if there is no field to do it and I could login as Admin. But I don't like what's happening and I will follow your advice and reinstall eOS Freya. Easier this way. I don't have important documents or sensitive matter on the laptop. I will do that later on and come back with…good news I hope. Bonne journée.
