I think playing on ElementaryOS Luna (0.2) and Freya (0.3) are two different things.

elementaryOS 0.3 Freya, is one of the best choice for playing games. It is based on Ubuntu 14.04 which comes with Long Term Support and nearly every gamedesigner does test his linux game on that ubuntu version.

elementaryOS 0.2 Luna, based on Ubuntu 12.04, is not a good choice for playing games. The 64bit version of Luna doesn't allow you to install steam because of some library conflicts. The 32bit version of Luna is running as expected, but some games are running better with 64bit of course.

If only I could play Age of Empires II on Elementary OS... I would be using Linux full time instead of dual booting with Windows!

If you want to play games on steam with elementary 64-bit you will have to install the 32-bit libraries that steam needs. Otherwise games like dota 2 will not play. As far as games that you can play, there is a very limited amount of good games for linux. Simply because not enough people use linux. There really is no money to be made like you can make on a Windows PC or console game system. This is quickly changing though so maybe in the next couple of years we will see more AAA games released for the linux platform.

It's oblious that we choose Linux for business (programming, hacking, security checking.ect..) It also supports few tiny games for entertaining in freetime.people keep asking if linux was a good choice for gaming? Of course not. That's why we have Windows,SteamOS,Xobox, playstation if you are a hardcord gamer.Anyway, playing game on linux might just the matter of time.
