Hello, I'm new to elementaryOS and Linux in general. I'm trying to install and make eclipse mars (4.5) work, but for some reason it always freezes my PC on startup. I tried a lot of tutorials from ubuntu forums, but nothing works and the problem persist. I got this java on my machine: java version "1.9.0-ea" Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.9.0-ea-b74) Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 1.9.0-ea-b74, mixed mode) Any help is very welcome. Thanks a lot. Cheers!
Hello Maximus5736, i can reproduce this issue with installed openjdk-7-jre:amd64 = 7u79-2.5.6-0ubuntu1.14.04.1 this way: Code (Text): cd ~/Downloads wget http://ftp.fau.de/eclipse/technology/epp/downloads/release/mars/R/eclipse-jee-mars-R-linux-gtk-x86_64.tar.gz tar xvzf eclipse-jee-mars-R-linux-gtk-x86_64.tar.gz cd eclipse ./eclipse Mostly the process gala (windows manager) is running amok, with CPU overload and 4GB+ memory allocation. I think this issue is something for the official elementary issue board at https://launchpad.net/elementaryos/+milestone/freya-0.3.1 Because this forums here are the non official community forums (elementaryOS still don't have official forums...), the eOS developers wouldn't take notice about this problem here. Unfortunately.
I see... Thanks a lot anyways . I will just keep using eclipse in my Windows machine for now . Cheers
Bug confirmed @ https://bugs.launchpad.net/gala/+bug/1452185. Workarround: Open Ecplise as root (sudo ./eclipse) Works that way hf
