Hello, Following an accident, my laptop screen died (a piece of furniture falling on it) so I have to connect my laptop to an HP screen. I don't want to completely fold down the laptop screen to keep access to the keyboard (avoid plugging in a new keyboard since the laptop keyboard has survived, unlike the screen). When I don't fold down the laptop screen, the laptop screen is turned on as well as the HP screen. As the laptop screen is completely ruined, it's useless, it's just a waste of energy. Does anyone know how to turn off the laptop's computer without flipping it down, since it's connected to another screen? If I go to "System Settings", "Display", elementary OS displays a big pink rectangle "Hewlett Packard 23" and a smaller dark rectangle "Integrated Display". Each rectangle has a gear in the top right corner. If I go to the "Integrated Display" gear and click on "use this screen" to stop using it, it doesn't change anything. What I want to do may not be available in this version of eOS. Thank you and cordially,
Interesting question. I'll need to do a bit of searching around on this one. One quick idea though have you checked your BIOS settings? is it possible to disable from there?
I haven't tried this myself, but this link describes how to disable the LCD desplay in grub. https://superuser.com/questions/636617/disabling-laptop-monitor-on-boot Just be careful playing around with grub as you may end up with an unbootable system, so backup anything important first before you start in case you need to re-install.
