(First time doing this) Complete Linux newb here. Installed Ubuntu once. My mom bought a new computer and really wanted to try out Linux, elementary in particular as she's been using a Mac for the past 2 decades. I offered to install it for her. Followed every YT tutorial in found, made a disk image or whatnot with Rufus, booted it from that. Everything's going fine at first till i get to keyboard selection, at which point I make it and the cursor just starts spinning. I can move it and click but it does nothing. I let it go for 15 minutes, restart, turn off secure boot and try again. I get to Drivers and etc this time, choose to install all drivers but the updates box is ticked and grayed out, cant deselect it. Get my mom to enter a password for the Secure Boot as Installing drivers requires it, and hit next. Same thing happens, quit the installation after 10 mins and try again. When i restart this time, the computer gives me this Failed to open \EFI\BOOT\mmx64.efi - Not Found Failed to load image \EFI\BOOT\mmx64.efi: Not Found Failed to start MokManager: Not Fond Something has gone seriously wrong: import_mok_state() failed Look up some fixes, try the renaming and same result. Unable to do the Wubi attempt as Windows isn't operational, and not techy enough to understand how to add grubx64 to my trusted EFI list in BIOS. Please help me out, knowing that Windows isn't working, I am very new to Linux and pretty bad at tech in general.
I booted an Ubuntu Live USB stick, went into my hard disk drive's /boot/efi folder and renamed the file grubx64.efi to mmx64.efi Reboot the machine and it should work.
I've tried this by copying grubx and renaming it to mmx with no succes. I'll try deleting grubx entirely and get back to you.
