Hey guys, im very new in Linux and i wasnt even very intressted in Computers at all before. But i try to learn everything. And now i have a really complicate problem: First i installed elementary on my Laptop next to Windows. I installed Wine and later i wanted to delete it. I followed a tipp in another forum to delete wine with a terminal-order that ends with .../* this was very stupid, cause later i found out this order delete everything that have wine in its name. after this elementary was somehow broken and didnt start really anymore... okay very stupid, ill never do it again. but how ever i like elementary and i had anyway to less space for my documents until windows was still on my Computer. So to install elementary just again on my hole Laptop. I choosed "format all and install elementary". Now here is my actually problem: When i start now, it shows again the dual-boot-menu, but instead of choosing beetween Windows and Elementary i can choose beetween ElementaryOS and ElementaryOSFreya, wich is very weired. I guess that means the broken elementary is still on its place and the new one is where windows was before. my laptop is strangely slowly. more slow than under windows. what can i do? how can i clean my harddisk? A solution that formats again everything is fine as well, i still have saved all my documents.
Thanks for your time and your help <3

    Welcome tink :)

Hehe, what have you done.. :- )

In your situation you don't loose anything, because you have a backup. You can remove old installations during the installation workflow of elementary/ubuntu, its in both linux versions the same tool called "gparted". You can choose manual format disk, then it is showing you a window like this one:

    gparted_example.jpg

A Partition with "ext4" is Linux. A Partition with "ntfs" is Windows. A Partition with "swap" is linux swap. You can delete the 2nd ext4 Partition. Or, you delete every ext4 Partition and create a new one. For installing Linux there must be 2 Partitions:

    at least 1 ext4
at least 1 SWAP (with 1x or 2x the size of your RAM, 8GB for example)

Or you install gparted directly and play a bit with partitions:

    Code (Text):
    sudo apt-get install gparted
    sudo gparted
Does this help you a little bit?

For making everything new do i have to use "new partition table" or "revert"?
    Thank you so much.

I think it is the minus / dash icon. Just mark the Partition you want to delete, and click -

Im sorry, im so new i ask sometimes not helpful questions. efi is fat32, i found out.
but i think there is an important point. I got to know i have two harddisk in my laptop.
How can i make sure that they both will be used for the new elementary.
I want to install it again and i will use gparted in the installation menu. when i just delete both swap and both ext4 will the new installed elementary find its place?

Thank you again so much you helped me a lot in understanding the gparted program! Finaly i got just one fast and pretty elementary on my pc.❤️
    I did it like this:
    SSD:
150MB for efi. All the other space in ext4 for the root of my system ( "/" as mount point)

    HDD:
    4153MB linux-swap
All the rest in ext4 for my personal files ("/home" as mount point)

I case another bloody beginner have a similat problem: here is a easy step by step guide: http://askubuntu.com/questions/343268/how-to-use-manual-partitioning-during-installation
