Hello I recently installed Elementary OS 0.3.2 Freya 64 bits, the first thing i noticed was that the monitor brightness was too high so I looked for the brightness control in System Settings>Power but it is missing. I've been looking the reason why but I haven't succeed in other forums. In the meantime I tried doing the following as suggested in http://elementaryos.stackexchange.com/questions/478/how-do-i-change-my-display-brightness. cd /sys/class/backlight/*/ sudo chmod 777 ./brightness ./brightness but I get the following: bash: ./brightness: Permission denied even if I go with sudo su i get the same result. I also tried to change the brightness value in the actual_brightness file, which is set to the max value 50, but when i try to save i get the Permission denied warning again. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance
I'm also a newbie and I have encountered this problem just now. I was able to adjust brightness at first but under power settings the brightness slider is no longer visible. I did manage to fix this with: sudo apt-get update
I find that my brightness control randomly disappears as well. So hope someone can help us address this issue here. This worked for me (after a restart), although this might not be what you need: http://ubuntuhandbook.org/index.php/2013/09/add-brightness-control-elementary-os/ It gives me a backlight setting of 0-16.
