Hi just installed Loki 0.4 on a laptop and worked seamlessly until two days ago when the App Center just hangs and does not work anymore. It loads up all the software apps up and everything seems ok but after pressing Install on any app the progress bar continuously shows "Starting" and does not install anything. The same goes for Updates, the only way i can now install system updates is by installing the "Software Updater" app. Any help is much appreciated as ive scoured forums and cant seem to find a solution?!
Hey foil, here it looks like they have the same problem: http://elementaryos.stackexchange.com/questions/7546/appcenter-does-not-install-anything-anymore and https://elementaryos.stackexchange.com/questions/7512/loki-app-center-empty Does it work again, when you type "sudo apt-get update" in your terminal and restart the App Center?
Many thanks for the reply Paradise Many thanks for the reply paradise, yes i saw those posts already but it seems they are not having the same problem as im having. I did try the sudo update but to no avail. Whats even stranger is that just now ive tried to install from the App Center again and it asked me for the admin password which it never did the previous times before when it kept freezing with the "starting" in progress bar, i thought i was in luck but yet again it still freezes, i can only close the process down by killing via System Monitor. Ive installed about 8 program after the fresh install and its just wont install anymore? Do you think Synaptic Manager is to blame, as it was one of the first things i installed from the app center? Whats even stranger is when i scroll down to Synaptic Manager or any other app ive installed from the App Center it does not stay "Installed" next to them but "Install", its as if the App Center doesnt recognised they are installed already.....
Since upgrading to Loki, AppCenter is broken on my machine.I get similar issues. The appcenter icon has a counter on it that grows, but nothing shows up in the updates panel. Today, there were 13 updates pending. So I'm running daily updates manually until it gets fixed. Try this: sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
Thanks for the advice at least for now i can update, I appreciate the help. This is a serious issue that seems to be giving quite a few other Elementary Loki users big problems with the all new App Center...I appreciate the time and dedication developers have put in to bring out the new Loki OS but its not stable, as App Center is causing all sorts of issues, namely it doesnt work properly and is not "Stable"
I agree, it sure doesn't seem like a stable release. I was using Loki Beta 2, and I don't experience any difference. If anything, the Stable Release is buggier than Beta 2. Makes me wonder about this statement on their blog (http://blog.elementary.io/post/143436823881/how-long-until-loki) where they say 'When it's ready'. Cause it's not ready. I no longer trust their blog or press releases. Since they are trying to compete against MS/Apple - I guess they've got the corporate b.s. part down pat.
APPCenter just sits at Starting" and never finishes, trying to help you guys on my friends Computer in good faith, can I safely use Synaptic package Manager?
Synaptic Package manager works perfectly - Phewww I dare say that ElementaryOS should not have put out a Flagship Loki. trying to get new Windows Users with such a basic problem as a NON-Functioning App Center. trust Me just trying to help
I used Synaptic in Freya, Loki Beta 2, and I'm using it in now Loki, though for simple tasks, I still prefer the command line - Synaptic is really just a gui for the command line apt-get tools. I think the purpose of the new AppCenter is to lock down the system. So the only real safety issue I can imagine is if you use child controls - you can probably get around them them by using either Synaptic or apt-get to install forbidden apps.
I thought I already mentioned Synaptic is working perfectly and it is what isn't is the appcenter, and the tweak tool ... 2 very important things trying to help you get Windows users into Linux (remember these simple facts, My friend seems very happy with this new OS - AWESOME - new to Linux. and where I think you should add Gnomes BEST LOVED FEATURE(S) ... Gnome-Desktop-Extension that impress so many newbies from being scared of Linux, as it work flawlessly by it's Windowed Manager, and with Firefox with 1 or 2 clicks, proving how flexible Linux can be, ... and how EASY, and how MODERN. ... He loves Loki the way it is. Where my friend likes your workspace switcher (so much like Windows 10), more multi-tasking people would really appreciate a Static # of workspaces to put their many apps running on. This is where Gnome 3 "Gnome-Desktop-Extensions" excel through ; WORKSPACES TO DOCK, Please learn from contributors like me and don't go down the route of Unity! or Windows Close-Mindedness. just Google Gnome-Desktop-Extensions and Ubuntu or Elementary and see the hits for yourself. Trying to help, Mark
After I did in Terminal with this command: sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade I found that it didnt do any update or upgrade because of IPV6. So i googled and found a command echo 'Acquire::ForceIPv4 "true";' | tee /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/99force-ipv4 permission denied but, i tried again this command sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade and it works!! So i assume this has something todo with ipv6. So i search again for solution and i found https://elementaryforums.com/index....-us-archive-ubuntu-com-2000-20a-6542-12.2228/ After that i can browse like normal before i use loki and i will try updating from appcenter later
New update!! change your MTU to 1492 in my case my wifi connection. You dont need to shutoff ipv6. Cheers....
