So I just installed Elementary os Freya tonight, setup my dconf and tweak tools, got opera going, removed plank and installed docky (personal preference there, like it better) was really loving this new OS and still do...however some issues have arose that i can not solve.

First....I goggled around and found me an awesome dragon background to apply to my desktop, opened the display, clicked on pictures, selected my shiny new image and....Nothing!! just a black page for my background. I can go back to the built in wallpapers and it works fine, tried right click, set as background...nothing doesn't change at all. Being a (hopefully) soon to be ex-windows user (i hate 10, 7 not so much but moving now cause i refuse to use 10) this is completely insane for it to be this hard to set a background (also have Ubuntu and some pcLinuxOS experience, worked just fine there as well). I would understand this if Freya was beta but from my understanding its not, its stable so this should not be an issue. Any help here is appreciated but this is pushing me to other lands of linux if it becomes something insanely complicated (makes me question what else is gonna be that hard later, would rather move now if its gonna be this buggy, or did i break something and don't know it).

Second....Hell the heck do i open the files as root, if i need to copy files say for a theme or something that requires me to open ~/. i get a "this isn't yours and you cant use it" error, never had this issue in ubuntu (not a fan of it mind you, i much prefer the simplicity and beauty of Eos, its just my most used distro as I installed it a lot at work for customers who hate windows/lost recovery discs or various other reasons). I found a guide on how to enable the right click, open as root in elementary but i did not work after i followed it, i understand that accessing those files can be dangerous but sometimes its needed and it shouldn't be this hard to do it and from my understanding elementary os is built to not require the constant need of terminal to do most things as its geared towards beginners who have never seen a terminal (old dos guy here, commands are not alien to me but im no pro in linux either, plus its just not convenient) so asking for some help there as well.

Hopefully all you linux ninjas out there are reading this and saying "ohhh yeah you need to ...... and that fixes that so i will await your replies with bated breath, well maybe just monster breath but ill still be waiting :D

Thank you all for reading and helping, its much appreciated

ive solved my issues using another forum, its been nearly 24 hours and no response here so admin feel free to delete these messages, might play with eos some more but dont think it will be my main os due to lack of customization and community support.
