Hello everyone. New user of elementaryOS and linux in general. I have had tried other distros before and always went back to Windows. I just installed Freya on an older laptop. 1.6ghz 1gb ram 40gb harddrive. I plan on using for school.

As a new user and fresh install what would be the first things to do?

One of the programs I use with school is Blackboard Collaborate. Which uses Java 8. Will this work with Linux?

    Thanks for all the input.

Thanks! I will check out the video when I get home. Work has it blocked. I read the other post about Java and will do the update in AM.

    Thanks again!
